First Baptist Church Of The City Of Washington D.C.
Recently First Baptist Church of the City of Washington D.C. upgraded their sound system and retained RCI System to complete the Audio System design and install the system. The main goal was to install a system that will serve the congregation well into the future. After discussions with the client, it was determined that fiber would serve them well into the future. This was also important because of the potential ground loop issues since the electrical service would not be upgraded. The decision was made to proceed with a Digico SD10 console located in the balcony with fiber to the equipment rack on the first floor. In addition to the audio, all network communications from the FOH location and the equipment rack was done via fiber. The speaker selection was a distributed L-Acoustic speaker system based around the 12XTi enclosure. Additional 5XT were deployed for the choir monitors and Narthex and 8XT enclosures were included for a monitor solution for performances when needed. Outputs to the L-Acoustic LA4X amplified controller are AES/EBU. The system has the capability of functioning between two modes. The “live” mode is when an operator is available which for the weekend services. The “auto” mode is available when an operator is not present. The control for switching modes is accomplished by a BSS BLU 16 with a BLU 10 touch panel. Additional equipment included Shure UHF-R wireless systems and Listen Technologies hearing impaired system, Tascam CD recorders.
