RCI Systems Company Profile
Recording Consultants, Inc. was founded in 1970 by Jay Kingery, still the Managing Partner today, originally to design and install recording studio systems. Jay has worked in professional audio since 1962 and worked many shows and installations including the “I Have a Dream Speech” audio system in 1964. In 1976 the studio design and installation company created a production company called RCI Sound Systems and the original company were then renamed RCI Systems Inc. Rick Shepard was added as a partner in RCI Sound Systems to operate the new audio production and equipment rental company.
After decades in business and steady growth from both sides of the house the combined employee count grew to 120 and the combined annual revenue grew to about 10 million dollars. RCI Sound Systems was handling over 500 projects annually covering the entire spectrum of sound reinforcement, including special events, shows and concerts, corporate and institutional events, and broadcast productions between New York City and Atlanta. RCI’s Installed Systems Division provided design-build services for commercial, government and industrial customers throughout the Washington DC and Baltimore areas. The company’s work included Installation and Integration of Audio Visual, Video, and Control Systems for Schools, Hotels, Conference Facilities and Houses of Worship, among many others.
In 2001 RCI Sound Systems moved to a much larger facility in Beltsville, Maryland. RCI continued to grow, enjoying an enviable national reputation for quality, based on a culture and tradition of “doing it right.” In 2010 RCI acquired an additional 5,000sf of warehouse space and in 2012 acquired yet another 5,000sf for a total contiguous warehouse and office facility of 22,000sf with 6 loading docks just north of the Metro DC beltway.
In 2010, RCI began growing as a production company with investment in backline, lighting and video hardware and technical staff to expand the boutique audio company into a full-production event services provider.
In 2012 RCI Sound Systems embarked on a corporate rebranding that is ongoing and includes dropping the word “Sound” from the Company name to become RCI Systems and better explain the inclusive nature of our service, a redesign of logos and marketing, and a long-reaching update of our website and internet presence.
After more than 35 years, our loyal clients have come to trust RCI and rely on us to provide systems on time and on budget. Our national reputation for quality is based on a corporate culture and our tradition of doing it right the first time.
“The difference at RCI is our people.”
